I thought it would be fun to add another color scheme to my rosette design and show some of the process of building it. My previous "wave" rosette was made with bloodwood and a dyed blue color. This one is made with pearwood and green. I thought that these colors would be a bit more subdued and a contrast to the primary colors of the previous rosette of the same design.
There are ten different layups of veneer for this rosette mosaic.
Here are the individual strips that are sliced off the bricks of veneer.
Those ten strips are then glued together to make the mosaic log.
The log is sliced into little tiles that are placed in a circle. I am building the rosette in UHMW plastic because the glue doesn’t stick to it.
I build the rosette in three stages; building the mosaic ring first with the inside and outside rings added separately.
The completed rosette can be left to dry and the popped out to be used at a later date or the whole thing can be inlaid directly into a waiting top

Here is the rosette scraped flush and the top is ready to have the sound hole cut out.
